SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth women's tennis opened the final home weekend of the season with a 6-1 win over George Fox in a Northwest Conference match on Friday at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates (11-6 overall, 9-2 NWC) swept the season series with the Bruins (8-8, 6-5).
Audrey Judson and Olivia Corbett cruised a 6-0 win on the No. 3 doubles court to open the match. Faith Kert and Clara Todd followed with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 position to give Whitworth the first match point.
The Bucs won five of six singles matches. Josie Kellogg remained unbeaten against NWC opponents with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 6 position. Judson took down her opponent 6-0, 6-3 on the No. 3 court to give the Pirates a strong lead. Paige Oliver clinched the match on the No. 1 court with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Riley Bobkiewicz. Kert secured a two-set win (6-1 ,6-4) and Corbett wrapped things up with a three-set victory (4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5)) on the No. 5 court.
The Whitworth women will host Lewis & Clark at 11:00 am on Saturday's senior day. Olivia Corbett will be celebrated prior to first serve as the Pirates go for their third home weekend sweep of the season.
