FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The visiting Whitworth Pirates fell 6-1 to Pacific University in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday afternoon at Holce Tennis Courts.
The Boxers (10-4 overall, 8-2 NWC) swept the season series with the Pirates, who fell to 4-5 in NWC play and drew even at 7-7 overall.
Pacific earned the first point of the match with a doubles sweep. Gracie Smyley and Faith Kert fell in a close 7-5 match to the top Boxer pair. Audrey Judson and Olivia Corbett battled to a tiebreaker but were outdueled 7-6 in the third position.
Kert earned the lone match point for Whitworth after taking down Chloe Takahashi in the No. 2 position. Takahashi took the first set 6-3 before Kert fought back to a tiebreaking win (6-3, 1-0 (10-8). Judson took her opponent to a third set in the No. 5 position but could not come away with a victory.
Whitworth will visit Willamette on Sunday at 10:00 am.
