SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University women's tennis team fell 5-2 to Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday afternoon in a Northwest Conference tennis match at Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates (0-3 overall) dropped their second conference match of the season while the Boxers advanced to 3-0 in the NWC.
Pacific earned the doubles point with two narrow wins in the #1 and #2 pairings. Olivia Corbett and Audrey Judson captured a 6-3 win in the third pairing to wrap up the doubles matches.
Whitworth took two of the six singles matches. Gracie Smyley dominated her match 6-0, 6-3 in the #2 singles match for her third win of the season. Corbett battled for the second Pirate point and her first win of the season in a 7-5, 6-1, 1-0 (9-11 tiebreaker) thriller. Audrey Judson took her opponent to three sets in the #4 match but could not muster a tiebreaking win (6-2, 3-6, 1-0). Morgan McArthur competed in her first match of the season in the #6 slot and fell 6-1, 6-0.
Whitworth will hit the court again tomorrow, February 23rd against Willamette at 10:00am.
