SPOKANE, Wash. – Despite a dominant offensive performance, Whitworth settled for a 0-0 draw against visiting Lewis & Clark in a Northwest Conference women' soccer match on Saturday at Whitworth Soccer Field.
The Pirates (2-6-8 overall, 2-5-6 NWC) finished the match with a season-high 19 shots and 10 shots on goal, but the Pioneers (3-9-5, 3-6-4 NWC) kept the ball out of the net and claimed the season series.
First half possession was controlled by the Bucs as they fired nine shots, five on goal, to Lewis & Clark's one. Sylvie Washington and Mac Lembcke had a pair of quality looks but couldn't find the back of the net.
Whitworth followed up the first half with another strong offensive second frame. The Pirates doubled L&C in shots on goal in the second and sent 10 more toward the net. With time winding down, Kylee Russell attempted to flick a cross into the net, but it went wide as the clock hit zero.
Lily Cardenas had four shots on goal and Rebekah Hines added two to lead the Whitworth attack. The Pirate defense allowed just three total shots, a season-low for Whitworth opponents. Goalkeeper Karlee Roderick made two saves and earned her fourth shutout of the season.
Carli Driskill and Mischa Vanek each had a shot on goal to lead L&C. Anna Ingadottir made nine saves in net.
The Pirates play their final home match of the season on Sunday against George Fox. 10 Whitworth seniors will be recognized prior to kickoff.
