McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Whitworth women's soccer team could not pick the lock of Linfield's smothering defense during a 1-0 loss in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon at the Linfield Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats improved to 5-3-2 overall and 3-3 in the NWC with their second win of the weekend, while the Pirates dropped to 4-2-1, 2-1-1. Whitworth will look to get back on track offensively when the Bucs host Lewis & Clark and Willamette next weekend.
Linfield outshot Whitworth 12-4 in the match, including a 5-3 edge in shots on-goal. More important than the total shot difference was the fact that the Wildcats prevented the Pirates from getting off an official shot in the second half, even as Whitworth pressed forward for an equalizing goal.
Linfield got the match's only goal in the 28th minute when Rae Gerking scored off a crossing pass from Amalia Tufts.
Anna Boyer started the match in goal for the Pirates and made four saves. Alexa Fritz made three stops for Linfield.
