DECORAH, Iowa – Visiting Whitworth scored early, then tallied twice in the second half, in a 3-0 win at Luther College in a non-conference women's soccer match on Saturday night.
The Pirates (2-0) finished unbeaten on the first weekend of the season after shutting out the Norse (0-2).
Yacine Bitibale got Whitworth on the board in the eighth minute. That was the Bucs' only goal of the half, despite holding a 9-4 lead in shots.
Baylee Trejo scored her first goal of the season in the 58th minute, from an assist by Claire Nguyen. Kylee Russell's fourth goal of the season, assisted by Paige Fischer, capped the scoring in the 77th minute.
Whitworth finished the match with a 15-6 advantage in total shots, including a 10-3 edge in shots on-goal. Anna Boyer made all three saves in her first career start for the Pirates to keep the clean sheet. Elsa Queoff made six saves for the Norse.
Whitworth will return to action on September 7th for the home opener against Northwest University.
