SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth women's tennis fell 8-1 to Whitman on Saturday afternoon in the Scotford Tennis Center.
Whitman (5-2) beat the Pirates for the second straight season and rattled off its fourth win in the last five matches while the Pirates (3-4, 1-1 NWC) had their three-game win streak snapped.
The Blues took two of three in doubles, the #2 duo of Natalie Budge and Meredith Bedford fell 8-2, the #3 duo of Oliver Paige and Audrey Judson evened things up with an 8-6 win, but the top duo of Clara Todd and Gracie Smyley were narrowly beaten by Teleya Blunt and Arianna Castellanos 8-7 (7-2).
Whitman swept all six singles matches, five of them in two sets. #4 Jordan Turner-Esposito was the last two finish and took Whitman's Castellanos to three sets but was ultimately defeated 6-4, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).
The Pirates will seek to rebound in their exhibition match against CC of Spokane on Sunday, before heading back into conference play against Linfield and Lewis & Clark on March 9-10.
