Box Score PARKLAND, Wash. – Hannah Cecil scored twice to lead defending Northwest Conference champion Pacific Lutheran to a 2-0 win over visiting Whitworth in the women's soccer conference opener for both schools on Saturday.
The Lutes (3-1-1) outshot the Pirates (0-2-3) 13-9, but shots on goal were even 5-5.
The match was scoreless until Cecil scored to the upper-left corner of the net in the 66th minute of the match. Cecil added the match-clinching goal in the 87th minute from an assist by Lily Dose.
Maddie Kutschkau led Whitworth with three shots, two of which were on-target.
Kate Nelson made three saves in goal for the Pirates, while Abby Winkler stopped five shots for PLU.
Whitworth will take on Puget Sound on Sunday in Tacoma.
