Whittier edges Whitworth in women's soccer

WHITTIER, Calif. — The Whitworth Pirates fell to the Whittier Poets 3-2 in a non-conference women's soccer match on Saturday morning in Southern California.

The Poets struck first with a goal from Layla Traylor in the 8th minute. The Pirates were competitive and evened the match at 1-1 heading into the half with a goal from Kalle Crouch at the end of the first period.

Whittier's Elizabeth Roybal scored in the 52nd minute to retake the lead at 2-1. Layla Traylor was credited with the assist. A goal from Whitworth's Kalena Pfaeltzer in the 62nd minute evened the score again. Ireland Eaton was credited with the assist.

Avery Gonzalez scored in the 69th minute to give the Poets the 3-2 win over the Pirates.

Whitworth's goalkeeper Kate Nelson was credited with six saves in 60 minutes. Junior transfer goalkeeper Faith Rempfer had three saves in 30 minutes in her Pirate debut.

The Pirates will play their next game on Friday at 4:00PM on the Whitworth Soccer Field.
