Pirate Women Blank Bethel 2-0

St. Paul, MINN—Whitworth women's soccer scored two second-half goals two minutes apart and shut out Bethel University 2-0 on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Whitworth outshot Bethel 10-5 in the first half, but each team had three shots on goal and each keeper made three saves.

Macey Morales scored in 60th minute goal for the first goal of the game.  Two minutes later, Bethany VanSant scored to put the Pirates up 2-0.  Both were unassisted.  Morales scored her second goal of the season while VanSant tallied her first.

Whitworth withstood heavy pressure from the Royals (2-2) late in the second half, but Kate Nelson finished the match with seven saves to post her second shutout of the season.

Bethel goalkeeper Izzy smith had four saves.

The Whitworth women improve to 3-1 overall, and will begin NWC play on Sat, Sept 18 at 12pm at Pacific Lutheran.
