WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Jadyn Baumgartner scored the match-winner in the closing seconds to lift visiting Whitworth to a 1-0 win over Whitman in Saturday's Northwest Conference women's soccer match.
Baumgartner concludes her senior year with five goals, tying her total from last year in less than half as many matches. Whitworth finishes the 2020-21 season with a 4-4-1 record, while Whitman drops to 0-7 on the year.
Whitworth and Whitman entered the break in a scoreless tie. The Pirates took eight shots in the first half, while holding the Blues to zero. Hannah Lynch made two saves for Whitman in the opening frame, stopping shots taken by Gabriella Coprivnicar and Kalena Pfaeltzer.
Whitman took its first shot in the 70th minute, forcing Whitworth goalkeeper Rachel McGlothlen to make a stop. McGlothlen made a critical save later in the match, stopping a shot from Neftali Segovia-Cruz with 35 seconds left.
The winning goal came with just nine seconds on the clock. Coprivnicar made her way down the right side of the field, sent a short pass to Savannah Acpal on the left, who tapped a pass to Baumgartner in the middle of the box. Baumgartner concluded her Pirate career with a shot into the left side of the net. The senior finished with five shots on the day.
The Pirates finished with the lead in shots (18-2) and shots on goal (7-2), while both teams had five corner kicks.
