PARKLAND, Wash. – The Whitworth women's soccer team was shut out 1-0 by host Pacific Lutheran in Sunday's Northwest Conference match on East Field.
Pacific Lutheran (5-3-1, 5-3-1 NWC) finishes the season series with three wins and a tie against Whitworth (3-3-1, 3-3-1). The Lutes account for all three of the Pirates' losses this year.
PLU controlled the first half, holding Whitworth to just one shot through the period. The Lutes had five shots in the half, but Rachel McGlothlen made three stops to help the Pirates enter the break in a scoreless tie.
The second half was a similar result, with the Lutes outshooting the Pirates 5-1. However, this time PLU broke through with a goal in the 54th minute from Ellie Johnson. Johnson gave the Lutes the lead with a shot into the right side of the net.
PLU did not allow another Pirate shot through the remainder of the match to hold on to the weekend shutout.
McGlothlen finished with four saves for the Pirates. Cassidy Crosswhite got the start in goal for the Lutes but did not need to make a save as the Pirates did not have a shot on goal.
Whitworth will be back on the west side next weekend for a pair of matches against Puget Sound.
