Pirate Women Fall to Lutes, 1-0

PARKLAND, Wash. – Pacific Lutheran scored a goal late in the second half to secure the 1-0 win over visiting Whitworth in Saturday afternoon's Northwest Conference women's soccer match.

Whitworth (3-2-1, 3-2-1 NWC) held Pacific Lutheran (4-3-1, 4-3-1) to just two shots on goal on the game, but the Lutes scored on their second chance late in the match to earn the win.

The Pirates and Lutes went into the break in a scoreless tie with PLU holding a 6-4 shots advantage. Neither side created many scoring opportunities in the half as the Lutes attempted one shot on goal, while the Pirates had none.

Ashton Huppert replaced Cassidy Crosswhite at goalkeeper in the 62nd minute. The Pirates had three attempts on goal within the next 10 minutes but were unable to get by Huppert.

Kelly Brown scored the match-winner at the 79-minute mark. Neither team attempted another shot after Brown's goal.  

Rachel McGlothlen made one save on the match for the Pirates, while Huppert finished with three for the Lutes. Whitworth and PLU attempted nine shots each on the match.

The Pirates and Lutes will conclude their season series tomorrow at 11 a.m.
