SPOKANE, Wash. – Jadyn Baumgartner scored two goals in the first half to lead Whitworth to a 3-0 win over visiting Whitman College in Saturday's Northwest Conference women's soccer match.
Whitworth (1-1-1, 1-1-1 NWC) scored all three goals in the first half to earn its first win of the year. Whitman drops to 0-3 on the season.
The Pirates got on the scoreboard two minutes into the match. Ireland Eaton lofted a pass into the box to Baumgartner, who headed in her shot for the first Pirate goal of the season.
Baumgartner gave the Bucs a 2-0 lead with her second goal in the 18th minute. Gabriella Coprivnicar tapped ahead a short pass to Baumgartner for the assist.
Laura Pierson continued the dominant first half for the Pirates with her first collegiate goal in the 31st minute. Maggie Ames found Pierson for the 3-0 Whitworth advantage.
The Pirates created three more scoring opportunities in the second half but didn't connect. The Blues did not attempt a shot on goal in the second half of play.
Rachel McGlothlen made one save for the Bucs on the match. Emily Badgley and Hannah Lynch split time in goal for the Blues, finishing with three saves each. Whitworth finished with the lead in shots (15-7), shots on goal (9-1) and corner kicks (7-2).
The Pirates and Blues play again tomorrow at 11 a.m.
