SPOKANE, Wash.—Gabriella Coprivnicar assisted both goals to lead Whitworth to a 2-0 victory over visiting George Fox in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday.
The Pirates (9-6-3 overall, 6-5-3 NWC) won their home finale. The Bruins (11-5-2, 9-3-2) saw a six-match unbeaten streak come to an end.
The Pirates took a first-half lead when Camryn Gardner scored in the low left corner of the goal from a Coprivnicar assist in the 17th minute. Whitworth had a one-shot advantage in the first half, seven to six, but the Bruins had five shots on goal to the Pirates' three.
Whitworth goalkeeper Kate Nelson saved five shots in the first half, and George Fox goalkeeper Sara Thudium kept three shots out of her net.
Macey Morales scored an 84th minute insurance goal from a Coprivnicar assist to keep the Pirates ahead.
Goerge Fox outshot the Pirates nine to five in the second half, but three of Whitworth's shots were on goal compared to only one Bruin shot.
Maggie Phillips received a red card in the 90th minute for George Fox.
Thudium totaled four saves in the match, and Nelson had six.
Whitworth travels to Forest Grove, Oregon to take on Pacific University at 11am on Saturday, Nov. 6.
