Late Goal Lifts Lutes Past Pirates

TACOMA-Wash. – Whitworth took a tough 1-0 loss at Pacific Lutheran on Saturday in a women's soccer match. The Pirates held Northwest Conference favorite PLU scoreless until the last ten minutes of the match. 

The Lutes (4-0-1 overall, 1-0 NWC) were able to manage the play of the game allowing only one Pirate shot in each half. PLU got off 16 total shots on put eight on target. Whitworth (1-4 overall, 0-1 NWC) had no shots on goal. 

In the 84th, the Lutes' Machaela Graddy drove into the box and shot past Whitworth GK Sienna Tanner.

Tanner had three saves in her first Northwest Conference start. Takara Mitsui had no saves for PLU.

Next Up: The Pirates will stay in Tacoma to face Puget Sound on the back end of their conference road trip. The game will start at 12:00 p.m.
