Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. – In the 109th minute of action, Kelly Wucherer found Hannah Miller for the game-winning golden goal to lift visiting Whitworth past Pacific (Ore.) in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday.
Whitworth improves to 9-6 in the Northwest Conference and 10-9 for the season and Pacific falls to 6-10-3 on the year (4-9-2 NWC). Whitworth clinched its' best finish in the Northwest Conference (third) since 2012 with today's 2-1 victory.
The Pirates put seven of 10 shots on target in addition to holding the Boxers to only eight total attempts (three on goal). Eight Whitworth players had one shot and Leah Corra added the remaining two.
After a scoreless first half, Dakota Dantzer gave Pacific a one-goal lead off of a through ball from teammate Holly Chang-Northway in the 48th minute. Less than 10 minutes later, in the 57th minute, Timary Mathena evened the score at 1-1 when she finished a low cross from Rachel Roegiers.
In the first period of overtime, the Pirates controlled possession not allowing a single shot attempt from the Boxers.
In the final 10 minute of the match, Pacific went on the offensive, firing two shots that were blocked by Whitworth defenders in addition to Chang-Northway being issued a yellow card in the 107th minute. In the 109th minute, Hannah Miller scored her first goal of the season, placing the ball near post to seal the match for the Pirates.
Sienna Tanner (10-5) had two saves in her 10th win of 2016. Pacific's Kailey Hifumi recorded five saves and gave up two goals as she posts her 10th loss of the season (6-10-3).
