Pirates Fall to Bruins on Golden Goal

NEWBERG, Ore. – The Whitworth women's soccer team gave up a golden goal in the first overtime period to lose to George Fox 2-1 in a Northwest Conference match-up on Sunday. 

The Pirates (3-7 overall, 2-4 NWC) capitalized on one of their five shots on goal (8 total shots). George Fox (2-5-3 overal, 2-2-2 NWC), in an aggressive offensive effort, fired 19 shots (7 on target). George Fox had six players attempt more than two shots. 

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on a set piece. Alyssa Del Castillo took the corner for George Fox and found Stephanie Wilson for the first score of the match. The Pirates evened the score right before the half when Hannah Miller crossed in a ball to Katie Crowley who put it away in the 44th minute. 

A scoreless second half forced overtime, where in the 97th minute Emma Weme took a corner kick and found the head of teammate Hannah Harder who put it away to clinch the win for the Bruins. 

Sienna Tanner (3-4) had five saves and gave up two goals for Whitworth. George Fox GK Morgan Bars had four saves in a complete game to improve to 1-2-1.

Looking Ahead: The Pirates will come back to Spokane to face Pacific (Ore.) and Linfield in a pair of Northwest Conference contests next weekend.
