Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth exploded for two goals in each half to defeat visiting George Fox in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.
The Pirates improved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the NWC, while the Bruins dropped to 3-2-1, 1-1.
Tiara Pajimola got Whitworth on the scoreboard quickly, working through the defense and scoring unassisted in the ninth minute. It was her second goal of the season.
Brook Morrow scored her first of the year, also unassisted, just before halftime to double the Pirates' lead at the break.
Whitworth controlled the opening half, outshooting George Fox 10-4.
McKenzie Hemp increased Whitworth's lead to 3-0 just over 20 minutes into the second half. Dallas Nelson and Megan McCart synched up on a passing combo that fed Hemp for her first goal of the season.
Savannah Moisan pulled the Bruins within 3-1 in the 81st minute with her third goal of the season.
But Leah Corra completed Whitworth's scoring output in the 88th minute off of a combo assist from Morgan Howe and Pajimola.
The Pirates ended the game with a 16-9 edge in shots. Andrea Stump made three saves for Whitworth, while Ally Swanson stopped three shots for the Bruins.
Whitworth will host Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday at noon, while George Fox travels to play at Whitman.
