Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. - The Whitworth women's soccer team played to a tie for the second consecutive day, coming away with a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes of action on Sunday against visiting Willamette at the Whitworth Soccer Field.
Whitworth (6-8-3, 4-6-3 Northwest Conference) played its third overtime match over its last five games. The Pirates tied Linfield, 1-1, on Saturday. Willamette (6-8-2, 6-5-1) saw its winless streak reach five matches.
Defenses dominated throughout the match, thwarting attacks to limit offensive chances and sustained possessions.
Willamette fired 17 shots in the contest while Whitworth totaled 13 shots. The Bearcats put nine shots on goal, with seven in regulation and one shot on goal during each overtime period.
The Pirates produced four shots on goal, three of which came during the second half. Leah Corra put two shots on target while Hannah Bokma and DeNae Vandam each put one shot on goal in the match.
The Pirates took six corner kicks compared with two corner kicks for Willamette.
Whitworth goalkeeper Sienna Tanner recorded nine saves during her third start of the season to earn her second shutout.
Willamette goalkeeper Emily Sewall made four saves to record her seventh shutout of the season.
The Pirates travel to western Washington next weekend to face a pair of nationally-ranked foes in Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran. Whitworth will face Puget Sound on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. before taking on the Lutes the following day at noon.
