Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. - George Fox scored twice in a span of seven minutes during the second half to come from behind and capture a 2-1 victory over visiting Whitworth on Saturday afternoon.
The Bruins (4-8-2, 2-7-1 Northwest Conference) snapped a six-match losing streak to earn a split of the season series against Whitworth (5-8-1, 3-6-1). Whitworth won the first meeting, 4-1.
The Pirates struck first when Lindsey Foster scored her first goal of the season in the 23rd minute with an assist from DeNae Vandam, snapping a five-match scoreless stretch for Whitworth.
The lead held until the 71st minute when Emma Weme trapped the ball in the box and scored to the far post for her third goal of the season.
The match-winning goal came in the 78th minute from Brette Dodson, who scored her first goal of season from outside the 18-yard box.
The Bruins held the edge in offensive opportunities, totaling 25 shots and putting 13 shots on goal. The Pirates generated 12 shot attempts, putting seven shots on target.
Tiara Pajimola led the Pirates with four shot attempts and three shots on goal. Savannah Moisan helped apply the offensive pressure for the Bruins with seven shots, including three on goal.
Goalkeeper Andrea Stump made a season-high 11 saves, following a nine-save performance earlier in the week against Whitman. George Fox goalkeeper Morgan Bars totaled six saves.
The Pirates lost for the first time in 2015 when scoring the first goal or leading at halftime. George Fox also snapped a five-match scoreless streak with its performance on Saturday.
Whitworth travels to face Pacific (Ore.) at noon on Sunday.
