Pirates and Boxers Fight to a Stalemate

Box Score

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Whitworth women's soccer team (7-4-3, 7-2-3) could not find their offensive flow Sunday afternoon and battled Pacific (Ore.) (8-5-3, 5-4-3) to a 0-0 draw.

The first half of play went back and forth between the two squads and yielded no results. There were zero shots on goal and shot attempts were also scarce with a 2-0 Pacific advantage.

The second half was also played primarily between the opposing penalty boxes. The Bucs got their first look at the net with only seven minutes left in regulation. The Whit women made an offensive charge before time expired with five shot attempts but none found the net.

Neither goalkeeper found herself too busy throughout the game. Callie Bergstrom (Sr., GK, Spokane, Wash.) did do her part, along with the rest of the defensive line and blocked two shots on goal. The Boxers' Brittany Hartmann tallied two saves as well.

The two overtime periods produced no points for Pacific or Whitworth and both teams were shutout 0-0. Like the score, the shot count was even at the end with both teams recording six.

The Pirates will await their next opponents at home this week. On Saturday they welcome Linfield at noon and then Lewis and Clark on Sunday, also at noon.
