Pioneers Bow Down to Pirates

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. - Saturday afternoon the Whitworth women's soccer team (3-4-1, 3-2-1) made a stand against Lewis and Clark (1-6-2, 0-4-1) with a 3-0 victory in Portland. The Pioneers are yet to win a match in NWC play.

It was Jami Hegg (So., MF, Spokane, Wash) who set the tone early for the Bucs with an unassisted goal in the sixth minute.

The breakout player of the game for the Pirates was Carly Schilperoort (Jr., D, Issaquah, Wash.). Schilperoort had not scored prior to Saturday's contest but in the 31st minute Sarah Berentson (Sr., F, Burlington, Wash.) rebounded a shot off of the Pioneers' goalkeeper and found Schilperoort for the score. Schilperoort put the game away in the 68th minute with the final goal of the game.

The Whit defense was too much for Lewis and Clark, largely due to Callie Bergstrom's (Sr., GK, Spokane, Wash) five saves to complete the shutout.

On Sunday at noon the Pirates will match up against Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon to end the weekend.
