Puryear Field/Boppell Track at Whitworth Pine Bowl

Puryear Field at the Pine Bowl/Boppell Track: First used in the late 1930's, the Whitworth Pine Bowl has been home to Pirate football and track teams for over 60 years. Majestically surrounded by beautiful Pines (thus the name), the stadium added grass picnic/seating areas north and south of the grandstand in 2002. In the 1960's the permanent stands were poured and constructed, along with the press box. In 2023, the track named in honor of former Whitworth student-athlete and later trustee, Chuck Boppell, was upgraded to a new Mondo Super X 720 track, a surface know for its fast times. From its opening, Boppell has hosted numerous collegiate and high school meets, as well as Parasport competitions involving world record holders.  Thanks to a generous donation from Jim and Bobbie Puryear, a FieldTurf playing surface was added in 2017 and is named in honor of his parents, Ron and Georgia Lee Puryear.  A third sport was added to the facility in 2018-19 when women's lacrosse began playing games for the first time.
