WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Marissa Mount led all Whitworth Pirates with a second place finish at the NCAA Division III West Regional, earning all-region honors and a spot in the national championship meet.

Mount's performance led the Whitworth women to a 7th place team finish at the regional, the third-best performance among Northwest Conference teams. The Pirate men placed 9th, second best among NWC squads.

In addition to Mount's all-region performance, the Pirates earned strong results from Krystal Roberts, who finished just 0.2 seconds outside of an all-region spot in 36th, and NWC Freshman of the Year Ellie Shoop, who placed 42nd. Roberts was an all-region honoree in 2017.

Shoop was the first of a trio of freshman that rounded out the Bucs' scoring runners. Isabelle Snyder placed 60th and Mary Neder finished 67th.

Mount was one of two Pirates who earned all-region honors. Joel Mott's 33rd place finish led the Whitworth men and earned an all-region selection. Mott's 26:00.2 time edged Eli Fournier of Whitman by just 1.7 seconds.

Aidan Smith and Gabriel Meek followed Mott across the finish line in 43rd and 48th place, respectively. Smith's 26:16.5 time was his third best 8-kilometer race of the year and outpaced his All-NWC second team mark from the conference championships.

William Glick and Nathaniel Anderson rounded out the Whitworth scorers. Glick placed 54th with a 26:34 mark and Anderson's 27:11.9 time earned 74th place.

Up next for the Pirates, Mount travels to the NCAA Division III National Championships in Oshkosh, Wis. The senior finished 129th last season as the Pirates earned a 13th place team finish.
