FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Marissa Mount was named the Northwest Conference's women's Runner of the Year and Ellie Shoop earned NWC Freshman of the Year honors as a result of their performances at the Northwest Conference Championships last week.
Mount and Shoop were two of five Pirates who earned All-NWC honors, according to the conference's men's and women's All-NWC announcements. The duo was joined by Krystal Roberts, Joel Mott, and Aidan Smith.
Mount (Jr. – San Jose, Calif.) is the second consecutive Pirate woman to earn Runner of the Year honors after Kayla Leland won the NWC Championship in 2017. Mount won with a time of 22:17.7, finishing 16 seconds in front of her closest competitor. Last season, Mount finished 13th at the NWC Championships to earn All-NWC second team honors.
Roberts (So. – Walla Walla, Wash.) was the Pirates second All-NWC first teamer with a fourth place finish. The sophomore was an all-conference second team choice last year after finishing 12th at the NWC Championships.
Shoop (Fr. – Seattle, Wash.) just missed out on an all-conference first team spot, finishing eighth with a 23:49.3 time. She was the best freshman at the meet by 23 seconds, placing four spots in front of Hannah Berdahl of Pacific (Ore.).
Mott (So. – Sumner, Wash.) earned All-NWC second team honors after not even being able to score at the NWC Championships last year. The sophomore improved on last year's performance by 38 places to become an all-conference second team choice.
Smith (Fr. – Puyallup, Wash.) grabbed the final all-conference spot at the NWC Championships, edging teammate William Glick by 1.2 seconds. The freshman finished in 14th with a 26:51.8 time.
The Pirates travel to Walla Walla, Wash on Saturday, Nov. 10 for the NCAA Division III West Regional. Last year, the Pirate women won the regional to advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
