LEWISTON, Idaho – The Whitworth Pirates fell to the Lewis–Clark State Warriors in a non-conference volleyball game Wednesday night in the Activity Center, 25-16, 25-15, 25-22. The Bucs fall to 8-4 overall, while LCSC advances to 11-3 overall.
The Warriors started the match with a 3-0 run, but Lauren Budde's kill kept the Pirates in the game early (4-2). Whitworth's 9 kills fell short to Lewis-Clark State's 16 in the first set.
The Bucs kept the score within one point for the first part of the second set (12-11). But, a few Warrior service aces and a kill from Mikayla Sellers-Wiebe sealed the stanza for Lewis-Clark State.
The Bucs fought hard in a close third set with a 0.211 kill percentage, but the Warriors hit 0.471. Whitworth pulled within one (21-20) after a 19-15 deficit, but Lewis-Clark State pulled away with the final win of the game.
Rachel Gregg led the Warriors with 9 kills, and Gionni Brown added 14 digs.
Whitworth travels to Newberg, Oregon on Friday, September 22 for a Northwest Conference match-up against George Fox University at 7:00 PDT.
