The Pirates: Whitworth (1-12, 1-9 NWC) dropped both of its games last week, falling 19-3 to Whitman and 14-9 to Puget Sound. Caitlin Thomas put in a career-best performance against the Loggers on senior day. The senior saved a program-record 15 shots and finished with a 51.3% save percentage on the day. Whitworth wasn't able to pull out the win, however, as the Logger defense allowed just one goal in the second half. Addie Stouder provided another bright spot in the loss, scoring a no-look goal in her return from injury.
Let's Be Frank: Trinity Frank has made an impact all over the field in the Pirates' inaugural season. The freshman midfielder leads the team in goals with 22 and ranks in the top 10 of the Northwest Conference in groundballs (34 – 4th) and draw controls (42 – 6th).
Going to the Wells: Laura Wells volunteered to try her hand at goalkeeper during the offseason and the Pirates are glad she did. The first-time netminder holds the Whitworth individual game record save percentage (54.5%), and Wells is also tied for fifth in the NWC in total saves with 64.
The Bearcats: Willamette (5-10, 3-7 NWC) enters the weekend off a split with Pacific (Ore.) and Linfield. The Bearcats took down the Boxers 16-2 and fell 18-3 to the Wildcats. Anabel Ohsman and Miranda Piros lead Willamette on the attack with a combined 73 goals and 11 assists on the year. Kara Phillips leads the Bearcats on the other end of the field, posting a 40.2% save percentage with a 13.27 goals against average. Willamette held off a late comeback from Whitworth to earn a 13-9 win the last time that the two teams played. Piros and Ohsman scored five goals apiece and Trinity Frank scored three for the Pirates.
The Bruins: George Fox (13-2, 10-0 NWC) clinched the Northwest Conference championship with wins over Pacific (20-0) and Linfield (21-7) last weekend. The Bruins enter the weekend on a seven-game winning streak. George Fox boasts three of the top five goal-scorers in the conference in Lois Ray (1st), Madison Strickland (2nd), and Jennifer Burke (5th). Bruin goalkeeper Zoe Jorgensen leads the NWC in goals against average (3.55) and is third in save percentage (45.5%). George Fox shut out Whitworth 21-0 in the teams' last game.
The Coach: Noelle Brouillard became Whitworth's first women's lacrosse coach in May 2017. Brouillard came to Whitworth from the University of Scranton, where she was the top women's lacrosse assistant coach for two seasons. Scranton had a 22-13 record over the two seasons Brouillard served as assistant coach. The Royals advanced to the Landmark Conference tournament championship game in 2017 and finished with an 11-6 record.
