McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Whitworth University women finished in fourth place at the 2018 Northwest Conference Fall Classic golf tournament on Sunday at Michelbrook Country Club.
Allie Slingsby led the Pirates by finishing in tenth place.
George Fox held off Whitman to win the team title, despite the fact that a Blues player was the winner. Shiyang Fan was the medalist with a final tally of 73-76 – 149 (+5), eight shots ahead of three runners-up.
Slingsby shot 80-87 – 167 to lead Whitworth. Jaymie Pentony (90-80 – 170) tied for 12th place and had the Pirates' best individual score on Sunday. Cheyenne Marchand (92-86 – 178) took 20th place, followed by Maggie Peters (86-93 – 179) in 21st. Ali Brandt (82-100 – 182) finished 23rd.
The final team scores were: George Fox 635, Whitman 642, Lewis & Clark 670, Whitworth 684, Pacific (Ore.) 719, Pacific Lutheran 729, Puget Sound 768, Linfield and Willamette incomplete.
The NWC Fall Classic counts as 25% of the final team standings. George Fox gained eight points, Whitman 7 points, and so on. The NWC Spring Classic in early April will also count as 25% of the final standings, while the NWC Tournament in late April counts as 50%.
The Whitworth women will wrap up the fall season at the Whitman Invitational next weekend in Walla Walla.
