Pirate Women Move Into 3rd at UPS Invite

BREMERTON, Wash. – The Whitworth women's golf team moved up one spot on the second day of competition to take third place and the Puget Sound Invitational on Sunday at Gold Mountain Golf Club.

The Pirates jumped over PLU to finish behind Lewis & Clark and Cal Lutheran.  The final team scores were: L&C 637, CLU 638, Whitworth 655, PLU 663, Pacific (Ore.) 709, North Idaho Col. 712, Puget Sound 719.  After shooting 329 on Saturday, Whitworth posted a 326 on Sunday.

Maggie Peters led the Bucs with a score of 82-75 – 157 (+13).  She tied with two other players for third place.  She finished seven strokes behind PLU's Sami Briney, who won with a score of 74-76 – 150 (+6).

Jaymie Pentony (82-84 – 166) took 14th place, while Cheyenne Marchand (80-88 – 168) and Allie Slingsby (85-83 – 168) finished in a three-way tie for 15th.

Whitworth will be back in action on October 8th and 9th at the Lilac Collegiate in Liberty Lake, Washington.
