LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Whitworth University capped off the 2018 women's golf season with a third place finish at the 2018 Northwest Conference Tournament on Sunday at Oakbrook Golf Club.

It was a remarkably consistent year for the Pirates, who finished in third place in all six rounds that determine the league golf standings.  Therefore, Whitworth finished third overall in the final NWC standings.

Whitman, 4th in the latest Golfstat Division III rankings, knocked off top-ranked George Fox at the NWC Tournament to tie the Bruins in the final standings.  Based on tiebreakers, Whitman will claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

The women's NWC Tournament team scores were: Whitman 311-304 – 615, George Fox 317-305 – 622, Whitworth 332-337 – 669, Lewis & Clark 342-338 – 680, Pacific Lutheran 353-347 – 700, Puget Sound 361-358 – 719, Willamette 361-373 – 734, Pacific (Ore.) 355-380 – 735, Linfield incomplete.

Kristin Elich of George Fox and Whitman's Shiyan Fan both posted scores of 147 (+3), but Fan claimed medalist honors in a playoff.

Cheyenne Marchand (85-83 – 168) tied for 16th place.  Allie Slingsby (90-82 – 172) took 22nd individually and posted Whitworth best round of the tournament on Sunday.  Katie Ochoa (89-87 – 176) finished in 25th place.

The NWC Tournament counts as 50% of the final league standings.  The NWC Fall Classic and NWC Spring Classic each count as 25%.  Based on third place results at all three events, the Pirates finish third in the final NWC standings.
