SPOKANE, Wash. – Camy Aguinaldo poured in 27 points to lead Whitworth to an 82-63 win over Lewis & Clark on Saturday evening.

The Pirates (11-10, 6-6 NWC) forced 24 turnovers and scored 27 points with their extra possessions. Whitworth finished with just 14 giveaways.

Sara Hogman and Delsie Johnson led the Pios (2-19, 1-11 NWC) with 15 points each. Johnson also grabbed 13 rebounds to finish with a double-double.

"I liked that we came out strong defensively and were able to pressure them into a couple of mistakes," Whitworth head coach Joial Griffith said. "We were also able to get some good looks tonight and executed well on the offensive end."

Whitworth opened up its big lead early on. Tied at 6-6 with 4:50 remaining in the quarter, the Pirates went on a 13-1 run to take a 19-7 lead. Sydney Abbott earned a pair of layups in the post to open the run, which Aguinaldo closed with a spin and scoop shot on the fast break.

Lewis & Clark cut Whitworth's lead to eight in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but the Pirates responded with a 13-2 run. Courtney Gray extended the lead back to ten on a hook shot, which the Bucs followed with two more interior baskets from Megan Dorney and Madison Abbott. Aguinaldo and Sydney Abbott closed the run with two fast break layups.

"Our guards were in attack mode all night, which gave our posts some easy looks around the basket," Griffith said.

The Pios started to cut into Whitworth's lead at the end of the third quarter. Johnson and Hogman each scored 4 points on an 11-2 run that cut the Pirates' advantage to 59-51 with 7:42 remaining in the game.

The Bucs responded with a 7-0 run over the next 2:36. Dorney kicked off the spurt with a short-corner jumper and Gray closed it with a layup off an assist from a driving Sydney Abbott. The run erased the possibility of a comeback and the Pirates extended their lead back out to 19 by the final buzzer.

Dorney and Abbott joined Aguinaldo in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Madison Abbott added eight points with four assists and five steals.

Jessica Cerne joined Johnson and Hogman in double figures with 12 points.

Whitworth outrebound Lewis & Clark 46-34. Talia Brandner led Whitworth with seven boards.

The Pirates return to action when they take on Linfield at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 8.
