SPOKANE, Wash. – After one day of the Northwest Conference Combined Events Championships, Isabel Clark leads all Pirates and is in third place in the Heptathlon. 

Clark is one of seven Pirates competing in the NWC Combined Events Championships. Two Whitworth men are participating in the Decathlon and five women are in the Heptathlon.

Clark's strong start was keyed by her finish in the 100-meter hurdles. The junior ran the event in 15.15, tying with Dakota Buhler of George Fox for the best time. Clark also had her best shot put of the year with a 37' 11 ½" mark, beating her previous best by over 3 feet. 

Sarah Cool also sits in the top-five after the first day of action. The sophomore's high-point event was the 200-meter dash, which she ran in 26.67. Cool also put in a career-best time in the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.94 mark.

Nick McGill is Whitworth's top competitor in the Decathlon, sitting in 5th place after the first day of competition. McGill's point total was aided by his best mark of the year in the shot put, 37' 9 ¼."

Joseph Tingstad is Whitworth's second decathlete. After day one's action, the freshman is in 11th place. Tingstad equaled his career-best mark in the long jump with a 20' 6" leap and set a new personal record in the 100-meter dash with an 11.51 mark.
