PORTLAND, Ore. - Leland beat the school-record in the 1500-meter and the 5000-meter to lead the six Pirate track & field competitors at the 2017 Portland Twilight Meet on May 13.
Leland jumped from eighth to third nationally, finishing in 4:27.25 to take the school-record from Tonya Turner (4:29.13) and earn third-place in heat two of the women's 1500-meter run. In the 5K, she ran a 16:54.40 to beat the record she set earlier this season by 13 seconds. Her new personal-best ranks her as seventh nationally.
With a time of 1:02.93, Maggie Callan finsihed third in the 400-hurdles behind George Fox's Sarah King (1:00.93) and Willamette's Jewell Sparks (1:02.16).
John-Robert Woolley took fourth-place in the first section of the men's 400 hurdles in 54.01. Curtis Beach from Nike won the event in 50.35.
Finishing behind a pair of Gonzaga runners in flight three of the men's 800, Daniel Harper crossed in 1:54.04.
Next Up: Starting on Thursday, May 25, the top 22 women and top 20 men from each event will compete in the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Mount Union in Geneva, Ohio. The meet will last through Saturday, May 27.
