Whitworth Sweeps Willamette in Swimming

SALEM, Ore. – The Whitworth swimming teams closed a weekend trip to Oregon with a sweep of Saturday's Northwest Conference dual meet at Willamette. 

The Pirate women won 142-61 to improve to 3-1 while the men defeated the Bearcats 139-66 to go to 4-0.

Whitworth's women won 10 of the meet's 11 events.  Isabella Hackney won two individual races and was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay.  Hackney won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.79 and the 100-yard freestyle in 56.61. 

Hackney was joined on the opening medley relay by Hannah Galbraith, Jamie Siegler and Emma Boles.  The Pirate foursome won in 1:55.05.

Galbraith won the 50-yard freestyle (26.43) and Siegler claimed the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.85.  Eve Vetter sprinted to a win in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.77).  Olivia Cox pulled away to win the 400-yard I.M. in 5:02.98.

Boles, Cox and Galbraith were joined on the 200-yard freestyle relay by Lizzie Dressel.  They won in 1:46.01.

Ryan Grady and Finn McClone each won twice for Whitworth's men.  Grady won the 400 I.M. in 4:14.07 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:49.15.  McClone raced to wins in the 50 free (23.03) and 100 backstroke (56.74).

The Pirates won 9 of the 11 men's events.  It might have been 10, but the Whitworth medley relay that touched the wall first was disqualified for an illegal exchange.  The Pirate quartet of Eben Schumann, Jacob Tursick, Andrew Gonzales and McClone closed the meet with a winning time of 1:32.32 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Whitworth will return to action on December 1st and 2nd at the Puget Sound Logger Open.
