Pirate Swimmers Sweep Pacific

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth's men won all 11 events for the second dual meet in a row and the Pirate women won 10 of 11 races to sweep visiting Pacific University in a Northwest Conference swimming dual on Saturday.  The men's score was 165-21 while the women's final was 139-57.

Both Whitworth teams are now 2-0 in dual meets.

Ryan Grady and Finn McClone each won twice for the Pirate men.  Grady won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:00.76 and then won the 400-yard I.M. in 4:19.81.  McClone took the 50-yard freestyle (22.67) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.63).

Owen Lempert won the 100-yard freestyle in 47.90 and Byron Rossmiller took the 100-yard backstroke (53.81).  Both were part of Whitworth's winning 200-yard medley relay (1:38.04).  The Pirate men closed the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.49).

Isabella Hackney and Eve Vetter won two races each for the Whitworth women.  Hackney won both the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.59) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.46).  Vetter finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (58.05) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.79). 

Jamie Siegler swam a winning time of 4:56.01 in the 400-yard I.M. Hackney, Vetter and Siegler were joined on the 200 medley relay by Olivia Cox.  The Pirate quartet won in 1:55.59.  Whitworth's women finished the meet with a winning time of 1:47.08 in the 200 free relay.

The Pirates will return to action next Friday night at Linfield College, followed by a meet at Willamette on Saturday afternoon.
