WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Jacob Barsher finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Whitman Blues past the Whitworth Pirates 3-1 in the final match of the year for both teams.
The Blues (10-6-2, 9-3-2 NWC) earned a share of the NWC title with the win, while the Bucs (5-10-4, 4-7-3 NWC) end the year in fifth.
The Blues dominated the first half, taking 13 shots, 7 of which were on goal. One of those thirteen shots found the back of the net, with Jacob Barsher scoring the lone goal of the first half on an assist from Sam Johnson.
Whitworth managed just three shots in the first half. Zanskar Blair took the only shot on target, but the 7th minute attempt was saved by Owen Davis-Bower.
The Bucs turned on the offense after halftime. Britton Clifford evened the match at one in the 51st minute after a corner kick from Blair just a couple of seconds earlier. The goal was Clifford's first of the year.
Whitman countered with its second goal two minutes later to retake the lead. David Chavarin booted home the goal on an assist from Barshar to give the Blues a 2-1 advantage.
Oscar Harding put the match away in the 90th minute. With just nine seconds left in the match Harding took in a pass from Peter Stephens and effectively ended the game on the spot with his goal.
Whitman finished the match with leads in shots (20-8), shots on goal (9-2), and corner kicks (6-4). Jesus Nunez finished with six saves for the Pirates.
