Whitworth Men Sit Third at NWC Tournament

LAKEWOOD, Wash. – The Whitworth men's golf team will have to stage a strong rally on Sunday as the Pirates chase the 2018 Northwest Conference title.  Whitworth is in third place by 15 strokes after Saturday's first round of the NWC tournament at Oakbrook Golf Club.

The team scores are: Pacific Lutheran 287, Willamette 293, Whitworth 302, Linfield 306, George Fox 306, Whitman 311, Puget Sound 318, Pacific (Ore.) 318, Lewis & Clark 363.

Reilly Hegarty and Keegan Loo are tied for tenth place individually after shooting 75.  Caleb Belton, Triston Hartfiel  and Sam Stiles are all tied with four other individuals with a score of 76 in 13th place.

Willamette's Samuel Hinton leads the tournament after a first round score of 69 (-2). He was the only individual under par.

The NWC Tournament, which counts as 50% of the final league standings, concludes on Sunday.  Whitworth came into the weekend with a chance to claim the NWC crown, but the Pirates need to finish in first place this weekend.
