BEND, Ore. – Tristan Hartfiel tied for fifth place and the Whitworth Pirates took third place at the Willamette Spring Thaw on Saturday and Sunday at the Pronghorn Golf Resort.
Linfield rallied to win the team title after the Wildcats were in fourth place following Saturday's first round. Ben Graham of Willamette won a four-way playoff on the second playoff hole. The top four players each finished with a total of 149 (+5).
The final team scores were: Linfield 620, Pacific Lutheran 627, Whitworth 631, George Fox and Willamette 634, Whitman 639, Pacific (Ore.) 673, Lewis & Clark 750.
Hartfiel shot 74-78 – 152 to tie for fifth place with one other player. Caleb Belton (76-78 – 154) tied for eighth place. Sam Stiles (81-74 – 155), playing as a non-counting individual, tied for 10th place.
Whitworth heads into next weekend's Northwest Conference Tournament in third place in the league standings. The Pirates have a chance to claim the NWC title if they can win that final tournament.
