Pirate Men Win Final Fall Event

WALLA WALA, Wash. – Thanks to a good round on Saturday, the Whitworth University men's golf team won its final Fall event of 2017 after Sunday's round at the Whitman Invitational was cancelled due to fog.

Led by Sam Stiles, the Pirates posted a 291 on Saturday to claim an eight-stroke victory over George Fox in the shortened tournament at Wine Valley Golf Club.

Stiles was the individual medalist with a score of 69 on Saturday (-3). He drilled a hole-in-one on the 175-yard 14th hole, which was his third hole of the day.  He began his round three-under through three holes and played the final 15 holes at even par to finish two strokes ahead of GFU's Joshua Lackey.

The final team scores were: Whitworth 291, George Fox 299, Linfield 303, Whitman 312, Walla Walla CC 315.

Three Pirates finished among the top five individuals.  In addition to Stiles, Ryan Brown (72) tied for third place and Triston Hartfiel (73) tied for fifth place.

Whitworth will return to action in March when the Pirates begin the spring half of the 2017-18 men's golf season.
